EFC72 – Cape Town set for Lightweight battle and so much more.

The mother city set to have one of the cards of the year, with the Lightweight belt on the line, the Return of Shana Power, and two other epic bouts rumored to be in the works.
News broke Earlier this week that Lightweight Champion would be Defending his belt against Perennial Contender and Former Lightweight champion Dave Mazany. The Las Vegas Based American , Mazany has had his last 4 EFC bouts in his now ‘Second Home ‘. He has developed a massive following and is often the “Home Favorite” as Cape Town has adopted him as his own. Van Staaden however is a man on a mission and has looked absolutely unstoppable since moving down to lightweight. This , Fight fans will be a contest of epic proportions!
The rest of the card is all currently in the works or rumors and here is what we know so far:
- Luke Michael vs Deon Brunning – From what we can tell this fight is in the works but is yet to be confirmed. It will feature two guys with insane ground ability and toughness personified. Brunning was formerly one win away from being Number one contender when he lost out to Gavin Hughes. He showed just how tough an opponent he is with a gritty performance that went the full distance even though “Bonzai” had blown a knee early in the fight. Luke Michael is a massive prospect for the future with a new sense of urgency and confidence with the skills to match under the prosperous tutelage of the MMA Grand master Richie Quan.
2. Next up on the Rumor mill is the retuen of The Fighter Season 1 Alumni , Jenaid Ebanks. Graeme Cartmell abbounced at the EFC71 Press conference that Jenaid will be Fighting in Cape Town but did not reveal his opponent. He seemed destined to Fight Conrad Seabi however there might be a weight class problem between the two. The Rumors doing the rounds have sinced emerged that UK’s Ebanks could be facing Local favorite and Former Light-heavyweight champion Gideon Drotschie. Again this is yet to be confirmed.
3. Social Media was a buzz last week when Graeme Cartmell went live on Instagram with Shana Power and South African MMA Legend “Soldierboy”. It was revealed that Shana Power would be making a return to the EFC in Cape Town but again no opponent was announced. Her opponent is rumored to be a fromer GFC (Gauteng Fighting Championship) combatant, Paulwethu Power Namba, who will be making her professional debut against Shana Power should the fight materialize.
4. The last fight we can discuss is a prelim bout listed on the EFC website, Featuring two heavy hitters Justin Smith and Giovanni Preotorius. Justin Smith coming out of MAD Fit in Cape Town, the brain child Of UFC Fighter Don Madge and Boxing extraordinaire Matt Leisching. Smith in my humble opinion is one of the most exciting prospects to hit the EFC in some time who had the most emphatic debut dismantling his opponent in insane fashion. Keep your eyes on this kid!
Keep an eye on our social media pages as we will update as these fights materialize or change closer to the time. One thing is for sure, Cape Town is on for another insanely epic Night of MMA Action!
