MMA-Republic Welterweight Rankings (EFC TOP 5)

Rankings always seem to be a hot topic when it comes to matchmaking in MMA. Although there is no science to these rankings, we thought it would be fun to map out the divisions in the EFC to try and establish who is in the conversation and who is not.
Important to note, we base these rankings on people that are clearly active in the EFC, not on Hiatus or retired. Things considered would be win streaks, finish rates, opponents beat and so on.
Champion – Dricus Du Plessis
- Jose Da Rocha (9-4)
- Cameron Pritchard (4-1)
- Gunther Kalunda (4-0)
- Dino Baggatin (12-7)
- Shaun De Lange (4-3)
The Welterweight division is one of a few EFC areas awaiting clarity and where contenders are awaiting fresh opportunities and perhaps even a new Champ. While we wait for clarity on Africa’s Pound for Pound King perhaps these top 5 could emerge as future champs. Jose Da Rocha arrived on SA shores with a tough first assignment against Dricus, dealing with time differences, altitude, strange languages and cultures and the sheer might of the Champ Du Plessis. Since then, however, he has a looked to be a serious force and certainly the number one contender. Pritchard has been a perineal contender for some time now with only defeat against the man placed one spot above him, a rematch there would excite both prospects and fans and perhaps the talk of the interim belt could be possible. Gunther Kalunda is a man on a tear with 4 straight wins and probably one of the most feared men in the division, one more win against a high ranked opponent could catapult him right into title contention. “The Lion” has been around the game a long time and has done and seen it all. His resurgence has seen hi fight a lot smarter than his younger years and perhaps still holds the key to the gate for the emerging youngsters. Shaun De lange brings up the bottom of the top 5 with a record of 4-3 and speaks volumes to a slight lack of depth in this division but De Lange is a crowd favorite and has immense talents. Stringing a couple of wins could see him climb the rankings quickly.
