Kattar vs Ige – What you need to know

Featherweight Force
The second card of the UFC Fight Island series sees a main event between two featherweight rising stars in Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige. Coming off an impressive KO victory against UFC veteran Jeremy Stephens last time out, Kattar has cemented his position as a legitimate contender in the featherweight division, with five wins in his last seven appearances inside the Octagon. The favourite entering the contest, Kattar will look to utilise his elite striking game to his advantage and secure the victory.
His opponent, however, should not be overlooked and Ige has won 14 of his 16 career bouts to date. After spoiling Edson Barboza’s featherweight debut back in May, “50k” called for a matchup against a top prospect and has been granted his wish in this week’s main event. With Ige also determined to extend his current winning streak, fans can expect an exciting matchup between two of the best featherweights UFC has to offer.
English Excitement
English flyweight Molly McCann returns to action this week and will face fellow contender Taila Santos on the main card. McCann, who received her “Meatball” nickname from previously working night shifts at Subway, has won her last 3 contests and enters the Octagon in fine form. Having recorded unanimous decision victories in all of her UFC victories, the Liverpudlian will be looking to leave the judges out of the equation this time around with her strong stand up game. Taila Santos will provide a stern test however and has lost just once in her 16-fight career.
Also in action is unbeaten featherweight prospect Lerone Murphy, who will make his second UFC appearance against Ricardo Ramos. The Manchester native impressed in his UFC debut, where he held Zubaira Tukhugov to a split decision draw on short notice at UFC 242. “The Miracle” will be looking to continue his ascent through the featherweight decision with a victory over Ramos, who holds an impressive 14-2 career record.
Welsh Warriors
Two Welsh contenders will also be making the walk to the Octagon on Wednesday evening. Middleweight John “The Welsh Wrecking Machine” Phillips, who faces UFC debutant Khamzat Chimaev, will look to build on the first-round victory he secured against Alen Amedovski back in September last year and continue his current streak. In a bout tipped to potentially win ‘Fight of the Night’ honours, expect fireworks between two explosive strikers.
Unbeaten bantamweight Jack Shore will also look to keep his perfect record intact in his matchup against Aaron Phillips in the prelims. Tipped as one of the hottest prospects in the UK, Shore will hope that an impressive victory in this one will see him climb the rankings in a stacked bantamweight division.
