The Professional Fighters League (PFL), the fastest growing and most innovative sports league, is set for the 2021 World Championship event on October 27 on ESPN2 and ESPN+ (English and Spanish). Finalists in six weight divisions have navigated the most difficult season in sports to secure a spot in $1 million title bouts and look to be crowned 2021 PFL Champion.
The PFL World Championship event begins at 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ (English and Spanish) then the action continues on ESPN2 (English) and ESPN+ (English simulcast, Spanish exclusive) at 8 p.m. ET.
“The Baddest Woman on the Planet” Kayla Harrison will look to keep her spotless record intact when she takes on Taylor Guardado in the nights main event.. Harrison, a juggernaut who has established herself as one of the top fighters in MMA.Her perfect record of 11 wins against no loses with nine stoppages has propelled Harrison to the heights of the sports. Taylor Guardado, who amassed an impressive amateur career, her only loss coming at the hands of Ronda Rousey, has impressed in her first PFL season looks to take home her first championship.
Ray Cooper III felt he was destined to win the inaugural PFL welterweight title in 2018 after blasting his way into the final on the strength of four knockout wins. Things didn’t go his way when eventual champion Magomed Magomedkerimov ended Cooper’s run with a rear naked choke. The two were slated for a rematch in 2019 but Magomedkerimov was forced to withdraw from their semi-final match while Cooper went on to claim the title and the $1 million dollar prize. Finally, after three years, the two will square off in one of the sport’s most highly anticipated matchups..
The stacked card will also feature boxing superstar Claressa Shields who will be making her second appearance inside the PFL SmartCage. The greatest woman boxer of all-time made her successful MMA debut in June when she finished veteran fighter Brittany Elkin by strikes. She will face Abigail Montes in what promises to be an action-packed lightweight affair.
Calling the live action will be play-by-play announcer and former world champion, Sean O’Connell. He’ll be joined by Hall-of-Famer and MMA legend Randy Couture and one of the most popular MMA personalities today, Kenny Florian.
